A great way to begin decorating the bedroom is to begin with a theme. This could mean simply choosing a color range (eg. neutrals, blues, greens) or a specific theme (eg. pirate theme, garden theme, music theme). Then envision how you would like the room to feel or what you are trying to accomplish with your decorating. Here are some theme ideas to help get you started. Some may apply more to a child's bedroom, but may inspire you to get creative in other ways.

When you decide which theme to go with and need some style ideas, Google can be your best friend. Simply search Google for your theme with the words "bedroom theme", such as "striped bedroom theme", then click on "Images" at the top of Google. You'll see a page that looks like this:
You can even click on the colors on the left to see some design ideas centered around a particular color. Google Images is a very helpful resource during the planning stages.
One of the newest and most unique theme trends is to personalize the look of your bedding set. You can create a room with your individual personality using one-of-a-kind personalized bedding sets. To do this, you can start with a bedding pattern and add your own twist, such as hand made cushions, window treatments, even a bed skirt. This works great in a bedroom, because it draws the attention to the most important piece of furniture in the room – the bed. It pulls the focus of a large room to the center making it feel cozy, and ties everything together in a small room making it feel spacious.
This style of personalized decorating allows us to change our minds and our décor while avoiding messy wallpaper that becomes outdated quickly. Personalized bedding works in every decorating situation. If you started with the walls, picked out the furniture and now you can’t find the right bedding don’t worry, just start with tone-on-tone solid colours and design around it to match your theme. Or, if you want a musical theme in your room but don’t know what you would work, try to find a picture that you like and design your bedding working with the colors in the picture. You can also use these colors to decorate the walls.
